Untamed invites viewers into the vibrant world of Danish-born artist Hans Petersen, whose art spans more than two decades and over 500 works. His joyful and unruly approach to painting is infused with humor, playfulness, and whimsy. 

Featuring 63 large-scale acrylic works on canvas across three Greenwood venues - this retrospective highlights the full spectrum of Petersen's style from tightly-painted graphic compositions to loose and layered explosions of color in his abstracts full of energy, wit and wonder. 

Please join us for a chance to meet the artist in person at the opening reception on Thursday, May 8 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at The Arts Center of Greenwood. The event will feature live music by The Senators Jazz Band, a Greenwood-based ensemble known for its smooth, swing-infused sound. The event will also feature heavy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar as attendees get to experience Petersen's whimsical world up close. 

After the reception, attendees are invited to continue the evening with a walkabout to Good Times Brewing and The Mill House where additional works will be on view. All attendees can enjoy a specialty cocktail at the brewery and a 15% off dinner at The Mill House as part of this celebratory event.

Artist Biography:
​Hans Petersen is a Danish-born international artist educated at the Royal Danish Academy of Art in Copenhagen. Initially trained in architecture, he developed a passion for abstract expressionism, drawing inspiration from the CoBrA movement, particularly artist Asger Jorn. His work emphasizes complete freedom of color and form, resulting in bold and colorful subject matter that ranges from unconventional depictions of women to dynamic abstract forms.Hans’ passion for his painting is matched by those who collect and admire the scope, scale and dynamism of his work. Currently, he resides with his wife Barbara in SC where he paints prolifically in a lakeside studio.
