The Arts Center of Greenwood offers a variety of classes and workshops for adults designed to foster creativity while building basic skill sets and providing enriching arts experiences. Read further to learn more about some of our seasonal classes.
Art Workshops
A rotation of unique art workshops are offered for adults on evenings and weekends. These workshops are typically taught by local and regional artists who share specific skills and projects utilizing a variety of media.
Wheel Throwing
This four week class is offered seasonally and is designed for adults at a beginner/intermediate level. Participants complete at least three major projects. The instructor teaches wheel throwing techniques that include: centering, shaping, trimming, and decoration/glazing. Prior experience with clay is not required.
Introduction to Clay
This four week class is offered seasonally and is designed for high school level and adult beginners with clay. Participants complete at least three major projects. The instructor teaches hand building and wheel throwing techniques. Prior experience with clay is not required.
Hand Building with Clay
This four week class is offered seasonally and is designed for adults at a beginner level. Participants complete at least three major projects. The instructor teaches primarily hand building techniques. Prior experience with clay is not required.
Seasonal/Holiday Workshops
A rotation of holiday-themed workshops are offered for adults seasonally. These workshops include activities such as painting bisque ware, sculpting clay ornaments, creating serving trays/dishes, and more.

The series of workshops listed below are supported by a grant through the Greenwood County Community Foundation.
Dried Flower Wreaths
In this workshop, participants will explore the art of floral design and drying flowers with local designer, Melinda Dorn, while creating a unique wreath using ribbon, dried flowers, grass, and other mixed media. The finished wreaths will add a touch of whimsy to any home. This will also be a great workshop for couples and romantics looking for unique experiences/gifts for Valentine’s Day!
Melinda Dorn is an urban flower farmer, located in Ninety Six, South Carolina. She has been farming since 2018, and has recently begun specializing in dried flowers and dried floral art. She is passionate about sharing her love of growing things with those around her. Dorn earned her Master Gardener Certification in 2022. When she’s not "playing in the dirt," she enjoys watching movies and crocheting.

Acrylic Landscape
In this workshop, participants will explore the art of the traditional landscape using acrylic paint as a medium with local artist, Donna Laymon.

Introduction to Photography
In this workshop, participants will explore the bounds of digital photography through the ever-evolving lens of iPhones, digital cameras, disposal cameras, etc. with local artist, Malinda Guillory-Searles. The class will give pointers on model placement, grid line usage, depth of field, lighting, and scene setup. Participants may use iPhone, SLR or point and shoot cameras. The information will be general guidance with photo enhancement. The first half of class will be lectures indoors and handouts. The second half of the class will be guided walk-through Uptown Greenwood to put theory into action.
Malinda Searles is a happy wife and mother of 3, who has enjoyed photography since she was a young child. After begging her parents for a camera she joined the journalism program in high school and made her way to becoming the photography editor of the school yearbook. This solidified her dream to be a photographer. Searles has been a professional photographer for 15 years. She enjoys assisting families in capturing moments to commemorate their engagements, newborns and family memories.

Wheel Throwing (Monthly)
These classes typically meet 4 times a month, every other month, on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 - 8:00 pm
Wheel Throwing Workshop (One-Day)
This class is designed for teens and adults at the beginner/intermediate level. Participants will get a taste of what our monthly wheel throwing sessions are like and try their hand at creating a simple form. The instructor will teach wheel-throwing techniques that include: centering, pulling, and shaping. Prior experience with clay is not required.
