What is currently on view in the main gallery? Lineage: Embracing Hispanic Heritage presents rich and varied contributions of 10 contemporary Hispanic/Latinx artists based in the eastern United States. The exhibition features 40 works representing diverse media and themes centering on individual Latinx experiences exploring immigration, identity, heritage, memory, poetic narratives and more. The exhibition is currently on view in the main gallery September 6 - October 5, 2024.

Artist Biographies:
Aldo Muzzarelli is a contemporary artist born in Venezuela. He works with a variety of media and focuses on themes of optimism, freedom, equality, family, and ways to transform negatives into positives. He is currently based in Mauldin, South Carolina.
Alejandro Garcia Lemos is a contemporary artist from Colombia. His work focuses on social issues, mostly on aspects of immigration, sexuality, biculturalism, religion, and community. He currently works between Columbia, South Carolina and New Orleans, Louisiana.
Daniel Esquivia Zapata is an Afro-Colombian contemporary artist born in San Jacinto, Bolivar, Colombia. His work explores ideas about historical memory and what he calls the politics of remembering. He is currently based in Opelika, Alabama where he teaches art at Auburn University.
Diana Farfan is a contemporary artist born in Bogota, Colombia. Her figurative sculpture is known for its whimsical and thought provoking dolls, puppets and toys. She creates dramatic, poetic narratives, coated with a layor of humor. She is currently based in Greenville, South Carolina.
Elizabeth Mesa-Gaido is a contemporary Cuban-American artist based in Morehead, Kentucky. She explores themes around immigration, cultural identity, history, politics and disease in her work and she teaches art at Morehead State University.
Gerry Melendez is a photographer and Emmy-winning filmmaker originally from El Salvador. He is currently based in Columbia, South Carolina.
Hannah Banciella is a Cuban-American contemporary artist based in Miami, Florida. She specializes in drawing and her work explores themes of identity, past selves, dense environments, plant life, poetry and letting go.
Nicole McLaughlin is a first generation Mexican-American contemporary artist whose work is heavily influenced by her multicultural upbringing and her childhood memories of visiting her mother’s hometown of Cuernavaca, Mexico. She is currently based in Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts.
Orlando Corona is a contemporary artist born in Guanajuato, Mexico. He specializes in painting and printmaking and draws deep inspiration from his roots as a first-generation Mexican immigrant. He is currently based in Greenville, South Carolina.
Reynier Llanes is a contemporary artist born in Pinar del Rio, Cuba. He specializes in oil paintings focused on the dynamics of narrative and the forging of fables and allegories. This series of studies has informed many of the characters in his larger works. He is currently based in Miami, Florida.
