Naturescape is an invitational exhibition on view in the main gallery August 30 - October 6, 2023.
In art, the beauty and power of nature is an alluring subject matter with infinite possibilities. Naturescape focuses on a group of artists exploring these possibilities through material, motif, and memory - concentrating chiefly on the pillar of nature - the tree. The featured artwork ranges from representation through landscape to conceptual experimentation where the tree is treated as both subject and object. Impressions and imprints of nature including leaves, pods, flora, trunks, roots, patterns, and more are recreated on canvas, paper, clay, wood, and wire.
The exhibition features 63 works by 10 artists including Alain Mailland, Alice Ballard, Clay Johnson, Elaine Quave, Eric Serritella, Glen Miller, Glenda Guion, Jim Whalen, Lee Sipe, and Raul De Lara.
An open exhibition reception will be held on Thursday, September 21 @ 5:30 - 7:30 pm with heavy hors d'oeuvres and a cash bar provided. The event will be free and open to the public.
